Something a little different this week while I write out a few essays for upcoming weeks. I want readers to know that experiencing nature doesn’t necessarily mean big vistas, long hikes, or large, wild mammal encounters. It can mean being curious about a flower you see while riding your bike, or walking along a local rail-to-trail. And it can definitely mean absorbing what you see while on a 17-mile backpacking trip. I take many photos from my phone like just about everyone else and drag my camera out for more intentional times. It used to be the opposite. Such is life now. I have an upcoming essay about resources for newbie (Texas) naturalists that I hope will inspire you to be more curious whether walking from your car to the office or whether you are taking a stroll on a beach this summer. This post might be too long for email, so click through to read the entire post if you read via email.
has The Great Riverout on 06/11/2024. Maybe ditch the typical beach reads and add something more intellectual to your reading this summer with one or both of these two books!

Loved the photos! And what a great insight on “nope ropes” / “danger noodles.” Never thought of meme-ifying (totally misspelled that) as a danger but you have a great point, especially for such misunderstood creatures. Can’t wait for that essay!

Enjoyed this photo essay very much.
