Who knows what Abbott and the rest really think about the wall, about wild places and Texas' wild heritage? Part of our state of confusion today is that these MAGA politicians seem to have no discernable moral compass; they believe one thing today and something else when it appeals to bubba, or to the orange menace. And because of their power it makes our world so unpredictable and unsafe. I hope no wall is ever built there, but it seems it will depend on the momentary state of crazy.

Great post!

Now’s the time to let Abbott know our thoughts- don’t mess with Big Bend, Hotwheels- if you know what’s good for you!🔥

“…extreme lack of nuance and truth.” Geez, you got that right. And it’s been a long time since they forced me to take Texas history, lol! I’ve noticed the governor’s silence. He’s such a chickenshit.

There's been untold damage done from the white-washed narrative about the Texas Revolution. It's easy to manipulate the voting populace if you don't tell the full story. *sigh*

No wall through Big Bend. No way.

I suspect the prime reason for the border wall is corruption. It is really about awarding construction contracts to cronies. Abbott like many Republicans seems to have internalized the belief that corporations are entitled to profits at taxpayer expense. From that kind of misunderstanding of the role of government, it is pretty easy to slide into facilitating certain cronies' profits.

Texas MAGA Republicans add another layer. They know the Texas identity is a powerful motivator for many people. Therefore, they define anything they want to do in their own self-interest as being the "Texas" thing to do. Which is absolutely absurd in the case of Big Bend. To take an iconic symbol of Wild Texas and tear it up is pretty much the opposite of the Texas thing to do.
